Elegant Wedding Donut Wall

The newest dessert trend sweeping the wedding world has us in confection heaven. We can't get enough of these donut walls - the perfect delectable, edible art! You read that right. As brides continue to lean towards non-traditional wedding treats, we’ve seen a growing number of dessert tables that forego classic cakes, cupcakes, cookies, and candy to make room for a dazzling display of donuts.

Just think about it - those holes in the center just beg to be hung on hooks to create a jaw-dropping array of sugary, frosted deliciousness. They make not only a beautiful backdrop, but also a generous goody station for your wedding reception, brunch, or bridal shower. Don't be afraid to embrace this trend for all your party needs. Weddings shouldn't get to monopolize all the fun, so create a donut wall for your next baby shower, bridal shower, or birthday party to really add the wow factor for guests.

Curate the colors for your event, and then visit your local bakery or donut shop to request a mix of colored frostings, sprinkles, and glazes to fit your theme. Whether you choose pinks and browns, cheerful sprinkles, striped and swirled patterns, or a brighter color combination, there are a million different ways to blow your guests away with this insanely cool dessert craze.

Check out the pictures below to see more of this sweet wedding trend.

When choosing the types of donuts to offer, keep in mind that glazed and frosted ring donuts are generally larger than cake donuts. If you want all of your donuts to be the same size and look more cohesive, you will want to choose one type, and stick with it.

There are still plenty of options for both types of donuts, so don't worry - this isn't too limiting! You can still request different types of frosting, glazes, and sprinkles for ring donuts, and cake donuts can be made in assorted flavors and colors.

Personalized cocktail napkins are the perfect size for donuts and coffee, and with a large variety of color options, they can seamlessly match your theme.

Favor bags make the perfect accessory for your donut display, and can be personalized with your names and date along with a sweet or funny message. Guests can take a donut back to their table, or home to enjoy later in these food-grade bags. Here are some of our favorites fun donut sayings:

Love Is Sweet - Please Take A Treat
DO-NUT leave without a treat!
All you need is love... and maybe a DONUT
Glazed and Delicious
Donut you want one?
Donuts are our love language
Donut leave me hanging
Donut Worry, Be Happy

These gorgeous dessert displays can also double as a guest book alternative. Use decorative wooden tags for guests to write a short message on and then hang on hooks along the sides of your donut wall. At the end of the night, you'll have plenty of heartfelt messages from family and friends to save as keepsakes after the wedding.

Treat your wedding guests to a sweet snack for the road by providing wax-lined tin-tie goodie bags for them to fill with a donut or two. The tops close to keep donuts fresh, and the wax lining keeps glaze from soaking through the bags. We've found that 6" x 9" bags work best for holding a ring donut or two, and smaller bags work well for taking home an assortment of donut holes.

DIY PEGBOARD DONUT WALL

We are huge supporters of this tasty trend, so to help spread it far and wide, we've included a step-by-step so that you can make your own! You and your guests are going to love having this new wedding food fad to enjoy at your wedding!

Materials Needed:

Measuring Tape
Pencil
Saw
Paint
Paint Roller
Trim - Home improvement stores have a variety of different sizes and styles, so you can go as simple or intricate as you want
Hammer
Nails
Hinges
Drill with Screwdriver Bit
Metal Pegboard Hooks - 6" hooks comfortably hold two donuts each
Donuts

Instructions:

Step 1 - Cut the pegboard to form multiple panels as shown above. Measure, mark, and cut the pegboard to the desired size.

Step 2 - (Optional) Paint the pegboard. Lay it down on a protected surface. Paint and repeat with multiple coats until the color is even. Let dry.

TIP - When cutting the pegboard into foldable panels that will stand on their own, we recommend adding trim to each side of each panel. Pegboard is quite flexible and needs the extra stability to stand upright - especially when cut into narrow panels. Trim can also be painted to add a unique, decorative touch to your donut wall.

Step 3 - Add trim to the pegboard. Measure, mark, and cut the trim to fit each side of the pegboard. Paint if desired, and attach to pegboard with small nails.

Step 4 - Attach hinges to the back of the donut wall. We used 4 hinges on each side of the center panel.

Step 5 - Insert the metal pegboard hooks into the pegboard.

Step 6 - Add donuts, and enjoy!

DIY Wedding Reception Coffee Station

DIY Wedding Reception Coffee Station

Brides and grooms do a lot to make sure guests have a great time on their wedding day, and one of our favorite ways of doing this is by setting up a great food and/or drink station. These stations ensure that guests have access to anything they need to keep the party going all night long. A coffee station is the perfect addition to your wedding reception - not only during the colder months, but all year long!

Consider creating a beautiful set-up with any goodies your guests may need to create a custom creation, and dress up your drink station with personalized coffee cups and swizzle sticks. Simple signs make for the perfect accents to your display, and are really easy to incorporate. With our tips and inspiration below, you will have a custom coffee station planned and set-up in no time!

First, you'll want to choose a table or piece of furniture that has plenty of room for everything you want to include. We used an antique wooden buffet with a built-in mirror that is just beautiful, but you could use anything! Once you know how much room you will have to display all of your items, start to plan a list of everything you want to include.

Ideas:
Coffee
Decaf Coffee
Hot Milk (to use with the hot cocoa on a stick)
Hot Water (to make hot cocoa or tea)
Tea Bags
Hot Cocoa on a Stick (find the recipe here) or Powdered Hot Cocoa Mix
Whipped Cream
Creamer
Sugar
Marshmallows
Crushed Candies - like peppermint and Andes mints
Chocolate Chips
Butterscotch Chips
Flavoring Syrups (we used Raspberry, Almond, and Hazelnut flavors)

Make sure to personalize your coffee bar with decorations that tie into your event decor, and add custom touches like custom printed coffee cups and swizzle sticks personalized with a monogram or message. Chalkboard signs make great accessories for any drink station! We love the idea of a sweet message like 'Warm up here' or 'Baby it's cold outside' for a winter wedding, but we wanted to keep it simple with 'Hot Coffee' in large script lettering.

Fun Food Truck Catering for Your Wedding Celebration

Kissing CoupleA new year brings new trends in weddings, and one of the most talked about trends for 2013 is the use of food trucks in place of or as a compliment to traditional catering options.  Food trucks can be found on busy city streets, and are growing increasingly popular at weddings.  Not only is it fun to have a food truck at your event, it is convenient and unique.  They are a great alternative to conventional cuisine, given that most specialize in a certain type of food.  The diversity of food offered on these trucks is nothing short of incredible.  Some food trucks will allow you to customize your own menu and even name the items being served to your guests.

Food truck catering is definitely an option to consider when planning your wedding or next big event.  There are so many ways to use a food truck to compliment your wedding.  You can treat your guests to a full meal, or even just a few appetizers during cocktail hour as they wait for the newlyweds to arrive at the reception.   Another idea is waiting to surprise your guests with an end of the night snack.  What could be better than a food truck pulling up to surprise your guests once they start to get tired or hungry after a long evening of dancing and having a good time?  It would be quite the conversation starter, and a perfect way to end a wonderful night.

We have gathered some photos of beautiful weddings that have incorporated a food truck for your enjoyment.  We hope you enjoy these sweet shots!

Delectable Dessert Displays and Sweet Treats – An Inspiration Board

Polka Dot BackdropA growing trend in weddings this year is to offer your guests a sweet treat in the form of a stunning dessert display at your wedding.  Cupcake displays were big last year, but dessert displays will be the big treat for guests this year, focusing more on cookies, specialty desserts, and of course a wedding cake or two!  With so many different tasty options out there, it may be hard to decide what to offer for your guests’ indulgence.  We recommend sticking with you and your soon-to-be hubby’s favorite desserts, whether they include a family recipe for fresh-baked cookies or gourmet goodies.  Plan on three to four miniature desserts per person if no cake is being offered.

Brides will be going all-out on decorations for their dessert displays this year, and paying attention to even the tiniest detail.  There are so many different options for decorating your dessert display, including a lot of great DIY projects for the crafty bride.  Consider using a cabinet, dresser, or bookshelf for a unique look.  Streamers, pennant bunting, and backdrops are all things that can be crafted at home, or purchased if you are not the do-it-yourself type.  Greenery or balloons are both great options to change the feel of your display.  With a little bit of creativity, you can turn your dessert display into the talk of the evening!

Healthy Food Trends for Your Wedding - Fabulous Fruit and Vegetable Displays

Fruit and vegetable displayThe New Year is a time when we find ourselves jumping on board with new diets and workout regimens and pledging to have a healthier outlook for the year ahead. Certainly any of us with a wedding this year are vowing to be fit for the big day! While you're on a health kick leading up to your wedding, why not let some of these healthy food trends continue into your wedding day! These easy wedding reception food ideas would also be appropriate for bridal showers or any pre-wedding gathering where food is being served.
You were always told to eat your fruit and veggies when you were growing up, well now days it's a little more tolerable and enjoyable to consume these nutritious treats. While wedding receptions are no strangers to fruit and vegetables, the same old displays are dated and boring. Why not spice up the menu for the evening with a beautiful presentation of fresh fruit and vegetables. Fresh produce is not only a tasty option for your wedding reception, it also doubles as beautiful decor. The bright colors and variety of shapes and sizes of these types of foods create an eye catching showcase that will have mouths watering. Think of innovative and unique ways to display your vegetables, like individual mini baskets of everyone's favorite veggies. These sweet packages look like they came straight from the garden. Display vegetables in clear glass containers to let their gorgeous colors show. Individual clear cups can be filled with dip and topped with carrot and celery sticks. Even kids will love these easy appetizers. Consider alternatives to the usual veggie offering by instead serving a tasty and stunning layered salad in a clear glass container or serve individual caprese salads (tomato, basil and mozzarella) in small dishes. These offerings would be perfect to set out for cocktail hour but will surely be enjoyed throughout the whole evening.

When it comes to fruit, consider serving a fruit pizza or individual fruit tarts. These sweet treats could be served as appetizers during cocktail hour or along with the wedding cake or other desserts later in the evening. For a country garden feel, separate fruit out and display in its own cup or can, place the fruit containers inside a wire milk jug carrier or rustic farm basket. For a fancier touch, consider cubed watermelon with feta cheese topping or other exotic combinations. Fruit smoothies or purees can be passed around in lieu of a fruit display, how perfect for a hot summer wedding!
