Elegant Wedding Donut Wall

The newest dessert trend sweeping the wedding world has us in confection heaven. We can't get enough of these donut walls - the perfect delectable, edible art! You read that right. As brides continue to lean towards non-traditional wedding treats, we’ve seen a growing number of dessert tables that forego classic cakes, cupcakes, cookies, and candy to make room for a dazzling display of donuts.

Just think about it - those holes in the center just beg to be hung on hooks to create a jaw-dropping array of sugary, frosted deliciousness. They make not only a beautiful backdrop, but also a generous goody station for your wedding reception, brunch, or bridal shower. Don't be afraid to embrace this trend for all your party needs. When choosing the types of donuts to offer, keep in mind that glazed and frosted ring donuts are generally larger than cake donuts. If you want all of your donuts to be the same size and look more cohesive, you will want to choose one type, and stick with it. 

There are still plenty of options for both types of donuts, so don't worry - this isn't too limiting! You can still request different types of frosting, glazes, and sprinkles for ring donuts, and cake donuts can be made in assorted flavors and colors.

These gorgeous dessert displays can also double as a guest book alternative. Use decorative wooden tags for guests to write a short message on and then hang on hooks along the sides of your donut wall. At the end of the night, you'll have plenty of heartfelt messages from family and friends to save as keepsakes after the wedding.

Treat your wedding guests to a sweet snack for the road by providing wax-lined tin-tie goodie bags for them to fill with a donut or two. The tops close to keep donuts fresh, and the wax lining keeps glaze from soaking through the bags. We've found that 6" x 9" bags work best for holding a ring donut or two, and smaller bags work well for taking home an assortment of donut holes.

DIY PEGBOARD DONUT WALL

We are huge supporters of this tasty trend, so to help spread it far and wide, we've included a step-by-step so that you can make your own! You and your guests are going to love having this new wedding food fad to enjoy at your wedding!

Materials Needed: 

Pegboard

Measuring Tape

Pencil

Saw

Paint

Paint Roller

Trim - Home improvement stores have a variety of different sizes and styles, so you can go as simple or intricate as you want

Hammer

Nails

Hinges

Drill with Screwdriver Bit 

Metal Pegboard Hooks - 6" hooks comfortably hold two donuts each

Donuts

Instructions: 

Step 1 - Cut the pegboard to form multiple panels as shown above. Measure, mark, and cut the pegboard to the desired size.

Step 2 - (Optional) Paint the pegboard. Lay it down on a protected surface. Paint and repeat with multiple coats until the color is even. Let dry.

TIP - When cutting the pegboard into foldable panels that will stand on their own, we recommend adding trim to each side of each panel. Pegboard is quite flexible and needs the extra stability to stand upright - especially when cut into narrow panels. Trim can also be painted to add a unique, decorative touch to your donut wall. 

Step 3 - Add trim to the pegboard. Measure, mark, and cut the trim to fit each side of the pegboard. Paint if desired, and attach to pegboard with small nails.

Step 4 - Attach hinges to the back of the donut wall. We used 4 hinges on each side of the center panel.

Step 5 - Insert the metal pegboard hooks into the pegboard.

Step 6 - Add donuts, and enjoy!

DIY Sparkler Send Off

Summer and outdoor weddings beg for a little sparkle and shine.  Making a romantic, sparkler send-off a must-have photo op for brides and grooms.  After all, who doesn't love a glamorous, dramatic send-off?  In three easy steps, create your very own sparkler send-off for guests to light your way as you leave your wedding reception.

Supplies:

Personalized matchbooks

Sparklers

Ribbon

Scissors

Hole Punch

Paper and Frame

Bucket or tray for holding the sparklers

Step 1: Gather your supplies. Cut your ribbon and prep your matchbooks with a single hole punch.  (Providing each guest with a book of matches is way easier than trying to pass a few lighters around a group of 100+ people.)

Step 2: Tie sparklers (we used groups of three) to your matches using your pre-cut ribbon.  Place into your bucket or tray.

Step 3: Write your send-off sign (If you have terrible hand-writing like me, simply print your own).  Insert into frame and voila.

Fun Backyard DIY Summer Wedding

The most important thing on Lauren and Dan's wedding day was to have fun with their family and friends - and they made it happen one DIY project at a time.  Everyone in the bridal party and family had a hand in putting together this fabulous tented backyard affair.  The bride's father - a wood shop teacher - made loads of details and props for the wedding, bridesmaids cut table runners, groomsmen constructed a catapult to launch the bridal bouquet, and the moms washed out pickle and salsa jars that would hold votives on the couple's big day.  Between the activities leading up to this wedding and the ceremony and reception themselves, the bride and groom are sure to remember this day for years to come.  We can't thank Something Blue Wedding Photography enough for sharing this real wedding with us.

The groomsmen put together this awesome catapult to launch the bridal bouquet.  Guests wrote their names on flags and stuck them in the yard to see who's guess is closest.  Talk about a fun wedding game!

Laid Back Beachside Florida Wedding

When Melissa from Melissa Serra Photography sent us this gorgeous Florida wedding, we breathed a sigh of relief.  The white sand, the blue water, we can almost feel the warm ocean air and saltwater spray.  Sigh.  There is absolutely nothing better than the relaxed island feel of a beachside wedding.

Kira and Cory were lucky enough to wed among the stunning Florida beaches along with their closest family and friends.  Their relaxed reception was held in the beautiful backyard of Kira's parents family home. Nearly everything was handmade by the bride and groom.  From the bouquets to the reception decor even down to the gorgeous bamboo wedding arbor where they said their vows.  Kira's bouquet was handmade by her mother and included antique brooches that held special meaning to her.  From the boho styling to the casual decor, everything about this wedding has us completely smitten.

 

Simple yet elegant, this gorgeous bamboo arbor was handmade by the bride and groom's family and looked simply stunning blowing in the wind at their beachside ceremony.

 

This tiki bar with hand written chalkboard menu screams island living.  Such a great way to add an effortless, relaxed feel to a beach wedding.
